With Labor Day approaching and winter holidays on the horizon, now's the time to start thinking about parties. Whether your goal is business oriented and calls for a quick catered lunch delivered to your client's office, you're planning a fundraiser, there's a school or church event or a club meeting, we have some suggestions to brighten the day. If you've got a big family event or anniversary coming up, these tips will help make your party memorable.

1. Be Hospitable
Greet all of your guests as if they were best friends. Welcome them with enthusiasm and, as soon as you've said hello, offer them a drink to get things started. There's nothing worse than confronting a room full of strangers and not knowing where to start.

2. Make Introductions
More than likely, your guests won't all know each other. Go out of your way to make introductions. It may be important for a valued client to meet a key member of your staff. Some people like to play matchmaker by introducing single friends to each other. You may simply find some guests shy and reluctant to make new friends. Your efforts to help break the ice will be appreciated.

3. Play Lots of Good Music
There's nothing like a well-planned soundtrack to keep things lively. Think about who your guests will be and what styles of music they'll find most enjoyable. There are "best of" compilations for just about every style and period you can imagine.

If your event calls for live music, hire a band that will keep people on their feet. Offering something new and memorable is always fun, as long as its danceable (ie: Dixieland, Caribbean steel, reggae, etc).

4. Serve Great Food
The food you serve makes lasting impressions, contributes to the mood and, in some cases, can be the life of your party. While chips, dips, cheese cubes and deli platters are easy, they are uninspired. If you don't enjoy cooking or don't have time to prepare something wonderful, catering is an excellent alternative. All you need to do is discuss your agenda, agree on a menu and leave the rest to the caterer. They'll set up, serve, clean up and leave your office or home spotless. How easy is that?

5. Have Fun!
Your party is meant for you to enjoy as much as anyone else. So get out there and mingle, kick your feet up and have a great time. Your enthusiasm, laughter and visible signs of enjoyment will be contagious. Have a wonderful time!

We would like to acknowledge and celebrate Manager Jackie Brinkley's 40 years with the Pierce family.

Throughout this time, Jackie has been a delight to work with. She has a particular knack for always making both staff and customers feel welcome and appreciated.

After so many years, we wondered

what Jackie's favorite menu item might be. With enthusiasm rivaling that displayed by many of our long-standing and loyal customers, Jackie still claims the Super Doc bar-b-que sandwich with onions and cheese to be her favorite.

FYI: When not working at Pierce's, Jackie spends as much time as possible with her five adorable grand-daughters and extended family.

The next time you visit, please join us in celebrating Jackie's many wonderful years at Pierce's.
